Firstly, thanks to everyone involved in the Village Christmas Tree this year. Mr and Mrs Mulcare donated the tree and several volunteers in the village assisted with the collection, erection and lighting of the tree. Not only that, but they helped take it down again. I really thought it looked beautiful.
Although the 2016/17 Parish Council year is not yet finished, we are already planning ahead for the 2017/18 year and I am pleased to advise that the budget and Council tax precept for the next financial year has been agreed by the Council and will be communicated to Mid Sussex District Council. The calculation for the precept can be seen below, but the full proposed budget is on the Council’s website.
|2017/18 Precept Calculations|
|688.70||2017/18 taxbase as advised by MSDC 6.12.16|
|£48.51||Band D Rate|
|15.05%||Increase on 2016/17 figure|
|£6.35||Actual rise in Band D rate|
The Parish Council has worked hard to keep the increase to the budget as low as possible without reducing services or maintenance. Councillors feel that this still reflects excellent value and could not have been achieved without the continued support of the various contractors who carry out work for the PC and who continue to provide us with outstanding services and value for money.
West Sussex County Council wants to know your views on crime and community safety in your local area and in West Sussex. Police, Local authorities, NHS, Fire and Rescue Services as well as local community groups work in partnership to reduce crime and disorder to make residents feel safe. They want to understand your priorities and the areas you think services should be focusing on in the future.
The survey is available from 09/01/2017 until 05/03/2017 and will take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. There will be a link to it from the Parish Council website or you can go directly to the West Sussex County Council website. There will also be hard copies available in the Parish Council office.
Winter Management – we are still looking for any volunteers who would be willing to help with snow clearance and grit spreading – please do let me know if you would be willing to help. With regard to bad weather it is hoped that West Sussex County Council will be sending someone out to look at what could be done to make Waterbury Hill safer during periods of cold weather – will keep you posted.
Just to let you know also that The Bluebell Railway from the 13th April to the 19th April 2017 will be holding a major event and they have informed all parishes of the extra traffic local villages may experience over this 7 day period. A possible 50,000 visitors are expected.
The next meeting of the Parish Council is on 14 February 2017 at 7:30 pm. The Parish Council office is open from 10am until 12 midday on Wednesdays.
